We'd all like a spice rack and all the little herbs and spices we have at home!
Unfortunately we can't.
But...
Here are some basic things you should have in your store cupboard that make cooking a lot easier and allow you to be just a little bit more adventurous!
Unfortunately we can't.
But...
Here are some basic things you should have in your store cupboard that make cooking a lot easier and allow you to be just a little bit more adventurous!
- Oil - either sunflower or vegetable oil would be fine
- Olive oil - great for dressing food and giving it that extra edge
- Mixed herbs - Dried! as students we don't have gardens full of the finest freshest herbs. dried herbs are cheap, pre-chopped and easy to store
- Seasoning - Salt and Pepper is a must!
- Garlic - everything tastes better with garlic! but if you don't like your fingers getting smelly then use minced garlic from a jar/tube.
- Sugar - Pretty self-explanatory (to make things taste sweet)
- Lemon juice - To give your food that zestyness
- Spices - We're not saying that you should have every spice in the world but go with a few that suit your tastes... If you like oriental food how about Chinese 5 spice or Thai 7 spice. If you like Indian maybe some garam masala, cumin and chili powder and so on...
